SM Town Live World Tour A Smash Hit In Dubai As 15,000 Fans Arrive Early To See Their Favourite Korean Pop Artists Perform

Global performance brand SM Town Live made a spectacular entry into the Middle East over the weekend as part of its sixth world tour and first time in Dubai in association with 117Live, Hyundai C Square, Dubai Calendar and Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM).

Held at the Autism Rocks Arena on April 6, the ‘SM Town Live World Tour VI in Dubai’ showcased 35 of the world’s most renowned Korean artists bringing K-Pop to the city for the first time on such a large scale. Superstars such as EXO, BoA, Girls’ Generation, SHINee, Red Velvet, TRAX, KANGTA, TVXQ! and Henry took to the stage to perform for over 15,000 fans who travelled from over 50 different countries from around the globe. The concert was not short of theatre, with high energy, elevated stages and pyrotechnics throughout the four-hour performance.

K-Pop fans are exceptionally dedicated and those in the UAE are no exception. Some Emirati fans were so eager they queued from 6am in the morning for the concert, patiently waiting for the doors to officially open at 4pm. They were not disappointed. The artists played a total of 49 hits including EXO’s ‘Power’ which was used as one of the tracks for the choreographed Dubai Fountain show earlier this year, demonstrating the global appeal of the increasingly popular genre.

The concert certainly brought the two cultures together as UAE fans danced and sang along with the performers, often in Korean. Arabic subtitles were projected onto the screens throughout the performance, yet many fans knew every word of each song. The concert was packed with vibrant performances including amazing collaborations and an EDM section while the audience was enthralled with a rich repertoire and a stunning stage production.

Although it’s the first time Dubai has been a host city for the SM Town Live World Tour, it will not be the last, as UAE fans extended a very warm reception for each artist signifying their loyalty to their favourite band by the glow sticks the fans carried adding to the high voltage atmosphere.

SM Town Live started its first tour in 2008 and has visited major cities around the world including Seoul, New York, LA, Paris, Tokyo, Beijing, Shanghai, Bangkok, Singapore and now Dubai as part of their sixth world tour.
